Best beginner pickleball paddles: what to look for
We don't rank specific models or publish prices; models and specs change too often. Instead, here's what matters for a first paddle, drawn from our full paddle guide.
- Mid weight. A middle-weight paddle balances control and power while you learn.
- Thicker core. Thicker cores generally feel softer, with a bigger sweet spot.
- Standard or wide shape is more forgiving than elongated.
- Right grip size. If between sizes, go smaller and add an overgrip.
- Mid-range budget. No need for a premium paddle until you know your style.
- USA Pickleball approval if you plan to enter sanctioned tournaments.
